Schools Work

We work in Farlingaye and Kesgrave High schools through our mentoring project and also lunchtime clubs in both schools. We also offer a babysitting course every year in Farlingaye High school. Our main focus in both schools is supporting the wellbeing of young people through our mentoring project.

Compass Mentoring

We support young people who are struggling with a variety of issues. Our coordinators work closely with the young person to understand their issues and to match them with a suitable mentor who will meet with them on a 1:1 basis for a period of 6 to 12 sessions. Our sessions are carefully designed to enable the young person to discover solutions, building confidence and resilience and helping to improve their mental and emotional wellbeing.

Just42 carried out a Mental Health Survey in March 2024 with students from both Farlingaye and Kesgrave High schools. Of the 1376 young people who completed the survey 46% reported that they had poor mental health. 23% reported that they couldn’t cope with everything going on in their life and 58% reported that they worried about things more than they should. 29% worried most about their future and planning ahead. However, when asked what helps them when they are worried or overwhelmed – the most popular answer was ‘having someone to talk to’.
