Something for everyone in summer project
Added 11th June 2009
Woodbridge based Youth work charity Just42 have a nautical theme to this year's summer programme but there is still plenty of choice for those who do not want to get their feet wet!
Developing on last year when many enjoyed kayaking and power-boating on the River Deben
they are repeating this on the 25 th and 26 th August but have included an exciting addition; 9 young people aged between 12 and 18 will have an opportunity to be part of the crew on the old Lowestoft Fishing Smack ‘Excelsior' when it cruises the Suffolk coast between 28 th and 30 th August. Excelsior is 33 metres long and was built in 1921 – restored in 1989 it is now operated by the Cirdan Trust. “This will be an amazing opportunity for young people to experience life at sea” said Just42's Project Director Mike Simpson.
“ We are so glad to have received funding and to be able to offer this to young people for as little as £25. We are asking each potential crew member to tell us briefly why they think they should be given a place – it could be a life changing experience”
For those who would prefer to keep to dry land, there is the chance to try out the German Wheel or ‘ Wheeling ' as featured recently by one of the contestants on Britain 's Got Talent. This relatively new sport is made available to Just42 through the kindness of a dedicated group of enthusiasts who train at the Jets Gym at Rendlesham and they are making time available in the afternoon on 24 th August. Age range 12 -19 (or should be at least 4'9” tall)
Not everyone likes sport however and for those who are more interested in the arts, Just42 also have 3 days of ‘Animation' lined up for the 26 th – 28 th August, when those aged 12-17 can create spoof docu-dramas, take part in candid camera and learn new skills in animating short films.
Finally for younger children, Ruth Blunt and her large band of helpers will be holding Hasketon Holiday Club once again between the 20 th – 24 th July. So there is something for everyone! For more information call Just42 on 01394 380992 or visit their website www.just42.org.uk
